Southeast Dallas Community Center Renovation Project Kicks Off with $100,000 Donation

PlainsCapital Bank, FirstSouthwest and PrimeLending Host Groundbreaking Event at Jubilee Park & Community Center

The PlainsCapital Corporation family of companies—PlainsCapital Bank, FirstSouthwest and PrimeLending—recently donated $100,000 toward the Teen Place renovation project at Jubilee Park & Community Center, a 62-block neighborhood in southeast Dallas. Equipped with hardhats and sledgehammers, executives from Jubilee Park, PlainsCapital Bank, FirstSouthwest and PrimeLending all took part in demolishing an outer wall of the Teen Place. This demolition project was the first official step toward the new and improved Jubilee Park Teen Place. The fully renovated facility is scheduled to be complete by summer 2013.

On Saturday, March 2, PlainsCapital Bank, FirstSouthwest and PrimeLending hosted a groundbreaking celebration at Jubilee Park for neighborhood residents and their families. Event activities included a hotdog cookout, live DJ, bounce houses and a check presentation ceremony. PlainsCapital Corporation’s official live mascot, Mo the Buffalo, traveled from Weatherford to be on hand for photo opportunities.

The Teen Place, a converted Habitat for Humanity house, is home to Jubilee Park & Community Center’s youth and teen after-school programs that provide a safe and nurturing environment for local students. The project will include a renovation of the Teen Place, both inside and out.

“At PlainsCapital Corporation, we are committed to improving the communities where we live and do business and we are honored to partner with Jubilee Park, an organization that shares this commitment to our local community and youth population,” said PlainsCapital Bank Dallas Region Chairman George McCleskey. “We are proud to sponsor the renovation project, as well as youth financial literacy programs that will provide future generations with the tools they need to make sound financial decisions.”

The remainder of the donation will be used to implement financial literacy education programs for middle school students at Jubilee Park, as well as a “Pays for A’s” program that will reward students with $5 for every “A” received on their report card after they complete the financial literacy program.

“Jubilee Park is excited to partner with PlainsCapital for the Teen Place renovation,” said Jubilee Park Executive Director Ben Leal. “The original space was a single-family home and did not function well as a space to provide after-school and youth programming. Because of the generosity of PlainsCapital Bank, FirstSouthwest and PrimeLending, the facility will soon become a place where the youth and teens of southeast Dallas can study and learn.”
