PlainsCapital Bank Receives 2014 Leaders in Financial Education Award from Texas Bankers Association

PlainsCapital Bank was selected by Texas Bankers Association as a 2014 recipient of the Leaders in Financial Education (LiFE) Award. The goal of this annual award is to acknowledge and honor Texas banks that are dedicated to promoting financial education in their communities. The LiFE Award recognizes PlainsCapital Bank’s continued efforts to teach students about saving, budgeting and making sound financial decisions that prepare them for college, careers and beyond.

PlainsCapital Bank was recognized during a luncheon at the Texas Bankers Association’s Annual Convention in Colorado Springs on May 8. Jerry Schaffner, PlainsCapital Bank President and CEO, accepted the award on behalf of the Bank.

In 2013, PlainsCapital Bank partnered with Texas Council on Economic Education to develop an in-school and after-school financial literacy curriculum designed for seventh- and eighth-grade students. Employees from PlainsCapital Bank volunteered their time once a week to teach these fun and interactive lessons in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Lubbock, San Antonio and the Rio Grande Valley.

PlainsCapital Bank also worked with BancVue to provide students with access to MoneyIsland, a web-based, educational computer game that focuses on key financial areas including, saving and spending, earning and investing, and using credit wisely.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by Texas Bankers Association for our efforts to promote financial literacy among middle school students throughout Texas,” said Schaffner. “Our employee volunteers did an excellent job making financial lessons exciting and engaging for students and we look forward to continuing our efforts throughout our Bank markets in the 2014-2015 school year.”
