PlainsCapital Bank Reaffirms Commitment to Coastal Bend Region

Bank Makes $100,000 Donation to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for Scholarship

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX (Feb. 4, 2016) --- PlainsCapital Bank today reaffirmed its commitment to the Coastal Bend area by celebrating the official grand opening of its new regional headquarters in Corpus Christi.

PlainsCapital Bank hosted an evening ribbon cutting ceremony attended by city officials, business and civic leaders, as well as members of PlainsCapital’s executive management, further reinforcing the bank’s commitment to the region and local businesses.

Located in PlainsCapital Tower at 500 N. Shoreline Blvd. in downtown Corpus Christi, PlainsCapital Bank’s Coastal Bend regional headquarters will serve as the main location for the bank’s Corpus Christi branch network.

“Corpus Christi is a key market because of its strategic importance to the region’s economy,” said PlainsCapital Bank Chairman Alan B. White. “We wanted a presence in downtown that strengthened our footprint in this part of the state and supported our efforts to grow our relationships with businesses and individuals within the community.”

Since entering the Coastal Bend area, PlainsCapital has expanded into the nearby Alice and Victoria markets and is looking at other potential opportunities for growth.

PlainsCapital’s philosophy for the last 28 years has been based on building strong relationships with customers and the communities it serves.

As part of the event, PlainsCapital Bank presented a check for $100,000 to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. The presentation was made to Dr. S. Trent Hill, VP for Institutional Advancement at the school, and will fund the PlainsCapital Bank Endowed Scholarship in Finance.

Among those in attendance at the grand opening celebration were Corpus Christi Mayor Nelda Martinez, State Representative Todd Hunter, City Council members Mark Scott and Rudy Garza, County Commissioners Mike Pusley and Brent Chesney, PlainsCapital Bank Chairman Alan White and PlainsCapital Bank President and CEO Jerry Schaffner.

PlainsCapital Bank is the sixth largest Texas-headquartered bank based on deposit market share. Founded in Lubbock in 1988, PlainsCapital Bank is now based in Dallas and has operations in all of the state’s major markets including Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Lubbock, Corpus Christi, El Paso, Laredo and the Rio Grande Valley. PlainsCapital Bank is part of Hilltop Holdings, a $12.4 billion publicly traded financial services company.

PlainsCapital Bank entered the Corpus Christi market in 2013 through the assumption of First National Bank of Edinburg, which had existing branches in the area. PlainsCapital signed a lease agreement for the 500 N. Shoreline Blvd. property that included naming rights for the building.

The Coastal Bend region encompasses 19 counties, an economically diverse area that includes the country’s fifth-largest port, the state’s eighth largest city, the oil-and-gas rich Eagle Ford Shale, a burgeoning defense aeronautics industry, strong military presence, bustling medical community and a robust tourism industry.

“PlainsCapital sees Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend region as an area primed for growth, and we are working daily to be part of that growth,” said Frank Hastings, president of PlainsCapital’s Corpus Christi market. “Our bankers are longtime residents of this area, believe in this great city and see an even brighter future on the horizon.”

“We are extremely proud of our new headquarters in Corpus Christi,” said White. “We have assembled an excellent management team here. They are rolling up their sleeves, are out in the community and working to serve our customers’ needs.”
