PlainsCapital Bank Employees Volunteer at Food Bank of Rio Grande Valley
RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TX (Nov. 19, 2015) - PlainsCapital Bank held its 2nd Annual Volunteer Day at the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley as employees pitched in to better local communities.
On November 3, 2015, thirty-five PlainsCapital Bank employees and additional family members prepared bags of food for distribution to those in need throughout the region. The Food Bank works through agencies to bring food to the hungry in Hidalgo, Willacy and Cameron Counties.
The volunteers packed 740 bags of healthy meals for distribution to senior citizens through The Community Supplemental Food program, which provides meals to those 60 years and older.
Additionally, Bank representatives packed hundreds of bags of healthy food and snacks for Operation Kid Pack, a program which provides healthy food and snacks for needy children. The children are provided a “pack” on Friday afternoons so they will have food for the weekend.
“PlainsCapital Bank is committed to serving communities, and we are extremely proud of this large contingent of employees who volunteered their time to this important community outreach,” said Robert C. Norman, PlainCapital Bank’s Rio Grande Valley region chairman. “We all are honored to call the Rio Grande Valley home, and volunteers such as these make it a better place to live and work.”
The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley is committed to improving lives through food assistance, nutrition education and access to community services. It has grown to become the 36th largest food bank in the nation and 5th largest in Texas based on food distribution.
One in two children in the Rio Grande Valley go to bed hungry, according to FeedAmerica.org., the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. As a whole, one in four people in the region are food insecure, meaning they are challenged with either paying bills or skipping meals and/or buying less expensive, less nutritious foods to eat.
