FirstSouthwest Makes Financial Donation to the Dallas Mayor’s Summer Reading Club

FirstSouthwest donated $2,500 to purchase 500 new books for the Dallas Mayor’s Summer Reading Club, an eight-week program, hosted by Mayor Mike Rawlings and the Dallas Public Library, that encourages reading among all ages throughout the summer months. Employees in Dallas contributed more than $500 by purchasing “Jeans Day” tickets for the opportunity to wear jeans on Fridays. The remainder of the $2,500 donation was given by FirstSouthwest.

The books purchased with the donation will be given away as weekly prizes for children and young adults who report what they’ve read to any Dallas Public Library location. Children 7 and older are asked to read at least five hours per week, and children 6 and under are required to read three hours per week to earn a prize.

For more than 40 years, Dallas Public Library’s summer reading program has encouraged kids to continue reading through the summer. The focus of this year’s program is getting the whole family involved. For the first year ever, adults have the opportunity to model good reading habits by participating in the Mayor’s Summer Reading Club with their children.
