  • Oversees the strategic direction of FirstSouthwest, an investment bank specializing in public finance, corporate finance, correspondent clearing, capital markets and asset management
  • Serves on the Hilltop Holdings Inc., PlainsCapital Corporation and PlainsCapital Bank boards of directors


  • Has served as chairman and CEO of FirstSouthwest since 1991, when he and a group of investors acquired the Firm
  • Led FirstSouthwest in a series of acquisitions from 1996-2004, in New England, New York and California, expanding the Firm's investment banking expertise to include debt, equity and clearing services
  • Held positions as senior managing director at Bear Stearns & Co., and as vice president and manager of Salomon Brothers in Dallas prior to acquiring FirstSouthwest
  • Served as past chairman of the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board  
  • Joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and served as first lieutenant in Vietnam from 1970-1971


  • B.B.A. in finance, University of Georgia


  • Received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia at Athens, 2008
