PlainsCapital Bank Receives Prime Partner Award for Support of Texas Access to Justice Foundation

March 11, 2011—The Texas Access to Justice Foundation (TAJF) presented PlainsCapital Bank with a Prime Partner Award for its outstanding contributions to civil legal services. Andrew Kerr, TAJF board member, presented the award to Mike Molak, president of PlainsCapital Bank San Antonio, during a luncheon hosted by the San Antonio Bar Association. Texas Supreme Court Justice Nathan L. Hecht was also on hand at the luncheon to issue a proclamation urging attendees to move their deposits to a bank that participates in the program and stressed the importance of additional funding to support legal services for indigent citizens.

PlainsCapital Bank participates in the state’s Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts (IOLTA) program and has been designated as a Prime Partner—institutions that go above and beyond by paying one percent interest on IOLTA accounts. The TAJF receives a significant amount of funding from IOLTA accounts and uses the funds for grants to legal aid service providers across Texas. Prime Partner banks, which pay interest at higher rates on IOLTA accounts compared to other banks, have a direct, positive impact on the amount of money available to help low-income Texans with their civil legal issues.

In addition to serving as a Prime Partner, PlainsCapital Bank’s Jonathan Levy, president of Austin Westlake, was recently confirmed by the Texas Supreme Court as a board member of the TAJF.
